ABOUT ME
My name is Shahad Alfaili, I am a student at Newcastle University. I have been teaching in the past in Kuwait, but in an informal setting, and I have never incorporated the use of technology in my classes. That is why when I took CALL I realized that there are many different technologies that I can use in teaching my students. However the challenge is correctly evaluating which ones can work back in my hometown and which ones are impossible to achieve.
I have to keep in mind the cultural background that my students might have, and how open are they for trying new things in learning a new language, I also have to get authorizations from the school, who in turn might need to get the approval of the government before I can try anything. Therefore, I have to keep in mind that some technologies might not be possible to adapt to an Arabic culture that is very strict to it’s tradition. However, this does not mean that I will not try, as I truly believe that the new generation is more accessible to the new technologies, and are more likely to engage with it.
